As you can tell I had some time to kill!! Does anyone know anything about the naming of these places or roads. The Dolman Stand (Bristol) and Pocklington School are well known, how about the more obscure road names?

This is a reply to Jeff Dolman's request for info from the Echunga Town Council.

In relation to your request, I can advise you that I have consulted the Council's staff, to get some background on how roads were named in the past, some of these people have lived in the District for a very long time (and have a long service with the council) and were involved in naming the roads, so their answer has been that Dolman Road, was named after the Dolman family, who were living, owning and farming land in that location.

The Council has now a Policy in place for naming its road, which provides the people living in the District, with an opportunity for suggesting names.

An up-date on the Dolman’s who farmed de land at Echunga!

If you look at the link I sent re burials at Echunga cemetery, you will see a Clarence Gilbert DOLMAN (buried 8/7/1999) – I have ascertained that he was born 18/8/1917, and a William Ray DOLMAN (buried 11/02/2005, born 5/11/1918).

Their father was Gilbert Isaac Robert DOLMAN (buried 26/2/ 1965) and mother Elizabeth May DOLMAN (nee BAILEY), buried 28/10/1966.

Gilbert and Elizabeth married 26/9/1914 at Echunga.

Gilbert was born 27/10/1883 at Echunga, parents George DOLMAN and Jane TICKEL; I have not been able to find a marriage for them in Sth Aust, so it seems that he was not descended from the John Dolman who arrived in SA in 1850. So presumably came from another State?

Cheers … Jeff Dolman

I don't know where to start but maybe somebody can help..
I have a copy of the Dolman Compendium, copyright 1940. We can trace our ancestry back to Alexander Dolman and Mary Salveyn..of York ,England ..1350 AD. As we move through history..the ancestry can be traced to John Cunningham and Orpha
Bingham 1782 and 1787 birthdates.
Further it can be traced to Dr.John Cunningham and Mary Hickham Dolman in the 19th century.
one of their siblings, my great grandfather, John F. Cunningham who married Elizabeth Grubbs. John F. was the father of my grandmother..Madge Cunningham of Dallas Texas.who married my grandfather, W.B. McNaughton..their son was my father..Eean Eugene McNaughton. who married my mother .Elizabeth Ellis
