Two Elizabeths

Two Elizabeth Dolmans born within a year of each other have caused some confusion for some researchers. Another researcher has obtained certificates and passed info on to me which may be of use to some.

Elizabeth Dolman, age 20, dau of James Dolman (farm lab) married 23 Apr 1872 Independent Chapel, Melksham, Wilts, William Biffin, age 19, fitter and turner - father William Biffin, also fitter and turner.

Elizabeth Dolman b 9 Mar 1852 Bosmore, Chippenham, father Thomas Dolman (labourer), mother Mary Ann nee Bull.

So the Elizabeth Dolman who married William Biffin was not the daughter of Thomas and Mary Ann (Bull).

Cheryl,
Any idea which James the other Elizabeth belongs to?

Yes, I believe the Elizabeth who married Wm Biffin was the daughter of James chr 17 Oct 1824 (son of George b 1791 and Susanah) and Hannah Smith.

I think Elizabeth daughter of Thomas b 1800 and Mary Ann (Bull) married William Rumming 26 Oct 1876 and then died in 1881 age 29, but haven't got certs to prove it.

Hi Cheryl & Andy
Here, with apologies for the delay Cheryl, are the details of the 2 other Elizabeth Dolmans I Have birth certificates for.

1851 April 18 11 Princes Place, Clifton, Bristol to George Dolman, Servant, and Elizabeth Dolman, formerly Wilkins.

1853 August 6 Rushey Plat, Swindon, Highworth&Swindon, to John Dolman, Coal Merchant and Beer Seller, and Eliza Dolman, late Peart, formerly Moore.

Neither of which is my ancestor, Elizabeth Dolman, daughter of James, both christened Derry Hill, that Cheryl refers to. Incidentally, I made a very quick visit to Derry Hill a couple of weeks back, and will post photos on my hotmail gallery, if you'd like to take a look.

I think there still is a mystery which Elizabeth Dolman aged 20 is residing at the Black Leys Reform School in Exeter on the 1871 Census, I seem to recall her birth place is given as Wootton Bassett, Gloucestershire (?) Though my ancestor isn't living with her parents James & Hannah in Melksham on the 1871 census, she marries William Biffin there the following year, 1872.

With best wishes
Beverley Thornton
Great Granddaughter of Elizabeth Dolman of Derry Hill/Melksham
