NORWEGIAN DOLMANS

1) I am looking for history of a Norwegian family, originally named Olson (Olssen?) who changed their name to Dolman after arriving in the United States in the 19th century. The name "Dolman" was picked because it resembled the name of a Norwegian Island, which I cannot find. Do you have any information about this?

WILLIAM (DOLMAN) MILES

Request from guest book. Can anyone help?

William Miles who married Mary Ann Walter 16 May 1836 was my GGGrandfather. One of his daughters, Sarah Miles, b1842, married Henry Hyatt and they lived in Shepton Mallet. My father was a Hyatt. I only found William's marriage recently and discovered that hr was also known as Dolman. On Sarah's marriage certificate her father's name is given as Miles and he made his mark. I would be interested to know why he was also known as Dolman- possibly his mother had been widowed and remarried?

DOLMAN ART DEALER

I'm trying to find information about a London art dealer called Dolman (don't know his first name sorry!) working sometime in the late nineteenth century (I think between 1870 and 1890). GEORGIANA DOLMAN, CHIPPENHAM , WILTSHIRE - MARRIAGE 1891

I recently bought an original marriage certificate with the surname Dolman on ebay. I believe the bride might be a descendant of Thomas Dolman and Mary Ann Bull, judging from later census returns?
In case anyone is interested, here are the details.
25 Dec 1891 at the Wesleyan Chapel Chippenham Wilts, Georgiana Dolman aged 29 Spinster residing Sheldon Rd Chippenham, her father, George Dolman = Market Gardener. Married to Harry James Tanner?/Danner?, aged 31, Shop Assistant, also of Sheldon Rd, Chippenham, his father, George T/Danner = Smith.

Married in the presence of Albert Townsend and Annie Dolman
Minister is Thomas Allcock & Registrar is W A Warrilow (?)

DOLMANS MAASTRICHT

Dear Andy and Henk:
I do not think there is any connection at all. We have lions and roses, but no lilies. I attach drawings. You will see from the symbols that the lions are red on a gold field, and the roses are silver on a red field. Don't get too excited about colour schemes: these could change between branches of the family and even sometimes between generations.
There are two theories about the roses: The family has a house for quite a long time in Maastricht (15-17th C) called "The Rose" and it may be that this ended up in the coat of arms for that reason. A little more likely: the oldest Dolmans coats of arms had lions and hammers only. One generation then married a lady from a family called de Sauveur, who apparently have roses and oak branches in their coat of arms. They likes this, and combined them (an "alliantiewapen"). But take this with a grain of salt, since I have never really researched this. What I do know - as far as we know anything - is that there were no lilies.
